We can’t be happier with the film’s journey since its release and we certainly don’t take our success for granted. The real joy for the cast and crew has been the inspiring feedback from audiences all over, as they shared with us their own experiences with Stroke survivors and carers, or for the fact that the film simply reminded them to give their mothers or fathers a call! We’re so pleased that audiences have resonated with the themes that the film explores, as well as the Stroke survivor and carer awareness it highlights, the very reason why we embarked on making Mother, Child.
We encourage you to please share the film with friends and family and help us celebrate Stroke survivors and carers everywhere. And most of all, to take a moment to check in with your loved ones, both young and old.

We couldn’t be more thrilled with the opportunity for Mother, Child to screen to an international audience once again in what will be our South West USA premiere!
WorldFest was founded over 50 years ago as an International Film Society in Houston, eventually becoming the third competitive international film festival in North America, following San Francisco and New York. MOTHER, CHILD WINS BEST SHORT FICTION AT SAE ATOM AWARDS 2017
As many of you may have learnt via our excited Facebook and Instagram posts over the past weekend, we have some stunning news:
Mother, Child was awarded this year’s Best Short Fiction at the 2017 SAE ATOM Awards!
Announced to a packed audience in Melbourne last Thursday evening, and sponsored by RMIT, the award was accepted by writer/director Tin Pang on behalf of our very talented cast and crew. He also dedicated the award to his mother, Kitty Pang, the inspiring woman behind the story of the film.
Tin highlighted the challenges that stroke survivors and carers face on a daily basis, and ultimately, we believe that these brave people are the real winners here.
As a nationally recognised award, this wonderful honour goes a long way in helping to raise the profile of stroke in the national health conversation, as well as promote prevention and recovery awareness.
We’d also like to take this opportunity to congratulate our fellow nominees Blight, The Blue Ducks and Nobody’s Child. And a very big thank you to all the judges and the ATOM Awards team.
You can learn more about the ATOM Awards winners for 2017 here.
It’s a truly incredible way to cap off a massive year for Mother, Child, and as we approach the festive season, we wish you and your loved ones all the best.
Stay safe and see you in the New Year!

Legacy is a truly special festival, representing groups and themes that are not always covered in mainstream cinema. There’s nothing really like it anywhere else in the world, and for that, San Francisco is a very lucky city indeed.
Our thanks to Festival Director Sheila Malkind, the board and the Legacy team for hosting us in San Francisco.

MOTHER, CHILD IS OFFICIALLY COMPLETE!!
We’ve got some incredible news to share with you…
MOTHER, CHILD IS OFFICIALLY COMPLETE!
The team has been hard at work preparing a film festival strategy for Mother, Child, and we’ll be submitting to festivals over the next year. We’re aiming to target festivals that focus on disability, diversity and social issues, along with key festivals in Australia and overseas.
We want everyone to see this film, not just because it’s our film (and yours too!), but because raising Stroke and survivor/carer awareness is vital. We’re also conscious that festival campaigns and submission fees can be costly. We’re hoping to approach national screen bodies for support with campaign and marketing costs.
In the meantime, we’ve ramped up donations for the festival campaign, directly via our website. You can find out more details by clicking here.
Please spread the word amongst your family and friends and let’s #fightstroke together.
That’s it for now. Don’t forget to stay in touch via our Facebook page and right here on our website.

KITTY & TIN PANG ON THE DAILY EDITION
If you were watching The Daily Edition on the Seven Network last Tuesday, you might have caught executive producer Kitty Pang and writer/director Tin Pang on the show!
The pair sat down with Sarah Cummings and Tom Williams to raise Stroke awareness and chat about the events that inspired Mother, Child.
You can watch the interview now by clicking here.

POST PRODUCTION UPDATE FEB 2017
It’s been a hectic month for the team since we shot Mother, Child in late December. Here’s a few updates:
We’re proud that the film is one shot, one take and no cuts, with no digital stitching required in post. However, we’d like to give kudos to VFX wizard Caleb Bell (Ghostbusters), who jumped on board to help with background replacement and compositing. His work is so good, that you won’t even notice it – and that’s exactly the point!
Sound designer Mia Stewart (Mad Max: Fury Road, Janet King) has been busy creating a soundscape for the film, while composer David Barber (Teenage Kicks) has contributed to MC with an arrangement of Bach’s Air on the G String for the score.
Earlier in the month, the brilliant music producer Michael McGlynn worked with director Tin Pang to record an original piano track for the film at Vienna People.
We’ve also been incredibly lucky to have Tracks Post Production come on board as a supporter, along with mixer James Bagley (Devil’s Playground, Underbelly) who stirred the audio pot, as it were, until sounds were silky smooth this past week.
Keep an eye out for more updates later this month, on both our Facebook page and right here on our website.

THAT’S A WRAP – SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!
It’s a wrap on Mother, Child! Our amazing cast and crew led us through the film’s single scene a whopping seven times, with every take more incredible than the last.
The scene itself clocks in at around 14 minutes.
For cast members Lawrence Leung and Gabrielle Chan, and writer/director Tin Pang, the evening was a culmination of an intensive rehearsal period beginning just a few days earlier.
The shoot was also an emotional experience for executive producer and Stroke survivor Kitty Pang, whose journey to recovery inspired the story behind Mother, Child.
Led by director of photography Garry Phillips, our brilliant camera, lighting and grip departments worked in tandem to bring the film to life, gracefully lighting the set and moving the camera to capture beautiful imagery.
A big shout out must also go to MVP on set, production designer Louisa Eagleton, who pulled double duty with art department and standby props. Just don’t ask her to light up incense in bunches.
As 2016 comes to a close, we’ll move into post production in early January.
From all the team, we wish you a merry and safe festive season and New Year!
Stay tuned for more updates on our progress, on both our Facebook page and right here on our website.

MOTHER, CHILD FILMING COMMENCES
After a year of development and months of pre-production, we’re thrilled to commence filming – for just one day only!
With the set constructed and dressed beautifully, and lighting set yesterday, our shoot day will commence with technical rehearsals. Following this, we will begin rolling camera on takes later in the evening.
The shot itself is incredibly complex – an estimated 12 minute take, with no cuts – involving two actors, and a remote head controlled camera system affixed to a stabilised dolly.
The crew and cast liken this creative/tech symbiosis to a dance, with the camera moving fluidly through a proscenium-esque set and following our actors movement throughout the space.
We’ll have more updates on our progress, so stay tuned to both our Facebook page and our website!

IT’S A WRAP ON OUR ACF CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN!
A MASSIVE THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who donated to our ACF crowdfunding campaign. At final tally, your kind donations added up to $7278!
This will make a huge difference in helping us meet the costs of production, from studio space to set build to gear and everything in between.
More importantly, you joined 95 others in raising Stroke survivor and carer awareness. And it doesn’t stop there. To everyone that has liked or shared our posts and our page, you’ve also played a part in raising awareness. You’ve all had a hand in making a difference.
We’d also like to send a whole lotta love to Esther and the crew at the Australian Cultural Fund for hosting us these past three months!
Stroke can be ugly, and maybe that’s one of the reasons it isn’t talked about enough. But it should be, and we want to change that. Big time.
The cast and crew are super excited to get cameras rolling and we’re all looking forward to our shoot day in mid-December. We’ll be posting updates on our progress as we get closer, so make sure you keep checking back on our Facebook page.
If you’d still like to donate, please click here for more details.

CAMERA & ART: GARRY PHILLIPS & LOUISA EAGLETON JOIN MOTHER, CHILD
Pre-production has well and truly begun, and today we are so thrilled to announce GARRY PHILLIPS as Director of Photography and LOUISA EAGLETON as Production Designer for Mother, Child.
As one of Australia’s most renowned DOP’s, Garry’s imagery continues to be stunning, striking and filled with emotional nuance, with credits and awards spanning both feature films and TV. Garry most recently shot Australia: The Story of Us for Essential Media/Seven Network, House of Hancock for the Nine Network and The Railway Man for director Jonathan Teplitzky, starring Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman. He collaborated with Teplitzky on Burning Man, Gettin’ Square and Better Than Sex. Garry also shot Candy, directed by Neil Armfield and starring Heath Ledger and Abbie Cornish, and Phillip Noyce’s Catch A Fire. He was honoured with the title of ‘Australian Cinematographer of the Year’ at last year’s Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) Awards.
Louisa’s talent for infusing realism and naturalism in her production design makes her the perfect fit for the world of MOTHER. CHILD. Her approach to styling and art underpins the character drama of the story, working to emphasise emotion without overshadowing it. She’s one of country’s most in-demand production designers, having worked on documentaries, short films, commercials and everything in between. Louisa is also an incredible stills photographer, having built her portfolio in Australia and overseas, with an extended sojourn in the U.S. and exhibitions in New York.
